Fitness, a family affair – March 16, 2015

Since running/fitness is a big part of my life, I’m going to start incorporating it into the blog. As a full time working parent, it can be difficult to find time to workout. There’s the guilt of being away from my daughter and fear of missing out on precious moments with her. But that doesn’t mean I have to give up my fitness routine. I’ve been a competitive athlete my whole life, so it’s been fun to get creative with mixing in working out and time with my daughter and husband.

Besides early alarm clocks to get my runs in, here’s how I can have fun with my family while still getting a workout:

Kendall weights 30 lbs (!) now, so using her as weight resistance for squats is very convenient…and pretty hard!

Squats: 12 x 4 sets



Planks: start out with 20 seconds and try to work up to 60 seconds + (4 sets)

When you feel strong enough, mix up your planks by lifting one leg for 10+ seconds each. Alternate legs.

Strides: 100 meters x 8. Gradually work up to 90% speed. Rest 30-60 seconds between each.
